Professional Truck Driver 1:

Course Description:
General truck driving with hands-on skill
development and instruction coordinated with the
Department of Transportation.
Learning Outcomes:
Demonstrate the safe operation and compliance with the
law in various maneuvers of a commercial vehicle in
different traffic situations. Operate a
tractor-trailer combination and maneuver the vehicle
safely frontward and backward around various obstacles.
Course Requirements:
Eligible candidate's must hold a valid Texas Drivers
License, be at least 18 years old, have no more than
three moving violations and no DWI or DUI's in the past
three years on their driving record, pass a Department
of Transportation physical examination and drug screen.
Length of Course:
Course will cover 160 hours total, 40
hours of classroom instruction and 56 hours of range
driving instruction and 64 hours on the road instruction
as well as the Department of Public Safety skills
(driving) examination.
Course Schedule:
Professional Truck Driver I course begins
every 5 weeks and lasts 4 weeks. Classes meet
Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Note: All classes will consist of
observation and behind the wheel training students will
share time in the vehicle and one instructor.
