| Please help the us save the XIT General Office
Building in Channing, TX! This building is an
important part of the history of the area and the last
remaining structure that represents the Historic XIT
Ranch. The XIT Ranch was a 3 million acre ranch
that was set aside by Texas Legislators to build a new
Texas State Capital building. When the
Capital building burned, the legislature traded the
ranch to a couple of contractors from Chicago for the
Red Granite building that still serves as the Texas
State Capital Building.
$2 Million must be raised by September 22, 2008
to prevent the possible dismantling of the XIT
General Office building. The current owners wants
to donate the structure to the Ranching Heritage Museum
in Lubbock, but we want to keep it in Channing.
The funds will be used to preserve the structure and
have it open for visitors. Any donation will be
truly appreciated.
Please make donations payable to: Hartley County
Historical Commission, Box G, Channing, TX 79018
